Arabian Journey – Permanent exhibition
ATELIER BRÜCKNER wins international competition in Saudi Arabia
In future, the roots and cultural identity of Saudi Arabia will be presented in the King Abdulaziz Center in Dhahran. ATELIER BRÜCKNER is designing the museum exhibition, which is entitled Arabian Journey and is spread out over an area of 1,300 square metres. The competition, which was intended for and attracted international participants, was decided in favour of the Stuttgart exhibition designers. The contents are to be determined in conjunction with scientists from the Natural History Museum in London. The client is the state-owned oil corporation Saudi Aramco.
The exhibition consists of a multi-media journey through the Arabian country's past, present and future. An extended panoramic strip demarcates individual exhibition areas, each with its own thematically arranged focus. Impressively staged narrative spaces engulf the visitor in specific landscape formations while offering access to the local people and their multi-facetted histories.
The King Abdulaziz Center is currently being designed by Norwegian architects Snøhetta and, when finished, will be the largest cultural centre in the country. Over a total area of 80,000 square metres, there will be four museum galleries, a library, archives, a creative-lab and a conference centre. The single areas are affiliated by a virtual knowledge-stream and informative experimental units. These so-called IT Exhibits are conceived and designed by ATELIER BRÜCKNER in collaboration with ART+COM, Berlin.
