A Creative Lab of Scenography
20 years of ATELIER BRÜCKNER exhibited
From 5 December 2017 to 8 February 2018, the 'Wechselraum Stuttgart' is showing the exhibition 'ATELIER BRÜCKNER – 20 years of Architecture, Exhibitions, Scenography'. More than 50 models, sketches and a new multifaceted publication represent projects and concepts of the Stuttgart architects' office, which became famous as a creative laboratory of scenography. ATELIER BRÜCKNER develops scenographically designed spaces – spaces that convey knowledge and experience. The projects range from the Titanic exhibition in Hamburg in 1997 to current commissions such as the Wagenhallen in Stuttgart and the Arabian Journeys exhibition in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. At the opening at 7:00 p.m. on Monday 4 December, Prof. Fritz Auer, founder of Auer Weber Architekten, will be speaking. A debate with Prof. Uwe R. Brückner, founder of ATELIER BRÜCKNER, will be about different approaches to (joint) projects and different ways in which they can be viewed.
Starting in 1997 from Uwe Brückner's stage design studio in Stuttgart-Fellbach, ATELIER BRÜCKNER is a scenography trailblazer and, in the last 20 years, has become a significant global player. With currently more than 100 employees, it is active all over the world. Beginning from the content, ATELIER BRÜCKNER develops designed staged spaces. This results in narrative spaces and spatial choreographies that endow primarily museums, trade fairs and expo pavilions with a special character of their own.
The exhibition in the Wechselraum shows milestones of the atelier, including the Cyclebowl of the Hanover Expo and the BMW Museum in Munich. Models and sketches are reflected in the Wechselraum. There are also two space-augmenting films, which provide an insight into the Stuttgart rooms of the atelier and, at the same time, an overview of the entire oeuvre of the atelier from 1997 until today.
The booklet published for the exhibition looks at the milestones in more detail. Numerous copies, opened on different pages, form an exhibition wall. The personal texts by Prof. Uwe R. Brückner on the genesis of the atelier, informative graphics and a scientific article entitled 'Scenography – as Design Philosophy' round off the publication. In the exhibition, it can be purchased at a price of 10 euros.
Guided tours and presentations enable visitors to find out more about the design credo of the atelier and to learn about personal stories and experiences that are associated with 20 years of ATELIER BRÜCKNER. The extensive accompanying programme initiates the dialogue.
