International Scenography Biennial – The Art of Holistic Design
7th – 10th November in Ludwigsburg
The International Scenography Biennial (ISB'13) welcomes its guests with a top-class panel from 7th – 10th November in Ludwigsburg and Stuttgart. The region of Stuttgart is an attraction for well-known representatives of art, design, architecture, museum, film and dance. The biennial's core theme is twofold: space as a consciously designed medium and scenography as a holistic discipline of design. Innovative concepts of space, stagings expressed through dance and artistic approaches to space will be presented to the audience. Quoting Prof. Uwe R. Brückner, main curator of the ISB'13, "Good scenography informs and fascinates; it combines logic and magic."
Entitled "The Art of Holistic Design", the International Scenography Biennial 2013 is devoted to the holistic approach to the design of spaces. It focuses on architectonic, media-related, sculptural and performative spaces showing the wide range of scenographic design. Among the speakers are the Canadian Architect Hani Rashid – co-founder of Asymptote Architecture in New York, the Austrian multimedia artist Peter Kogler, the Swiss animation artist François Chalet, Christopher Bauder – founder of the Berlin-based studio WHITEvoid, the US-based kinetic designer Chuck Hoberman, the Swiss photographer Nicolas Grospierre, the Danish architect Kim Herforth Nielsen – co-founder of the internationally successful architectural office 3XN, the Chinese sculptor and paper artist Li Hongbo, Welby Altidor – the creative director of the world famous Cirque du Soleil, the Danish staging-icon Kirsten Dehlholm as well as the French space artist and architect Odile Decq.
The lead-up event on Thursday, November 7 starts at 6.30 p.m. in the Ordenssaal of Ludwigsburg castle. The conference venue on Friday, November 8, 9.00 a.m. – 6.30 p.m. is the Albrecht Ade Studio of the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg in Ludwigsburg. The Academic Meeting on Saturday, November 9, 9.00 a.m. – 5.00 p.m. is hosted by the Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste Stuttgart: Outstanding works by students will be presented and current research questions on scenography will be discussed.
The evening program on Friday is scheduled from 7.00 – 9.30 p.m., then on Saturday and Sunday it is from 7.30 – 9.00 p.m.; it takes place in the Karlskaserne, Ludwigsburg. Eric Gauthier and the Turkish artist collective Nerdworking stage Dance Spaces "where spatial setting, innovative media technology and performance merge together to form a new format of danced scenography" says Céline Kruska, co-curator of the International Scenography Biennial.
ISB'13 is organized by the Film- und Medienfestival gGmbH in co-operation with the Akademie für Darstellende Kunst Baden-Württemberg, the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg as well as the Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste Stuttgart.
