Launched: Young Scenographers Contest
Culture Programme of the European Union promotes a new view of Europe
The Young Scenographers Contest, a competition for designers, promises a new view of European cultural heritage. It is being launched as part of the EU project entitled EuroVision – Museums Exhibiting Europe (EMEE). The competition is aimed at students and young professionals. They are invited to reinterpret museum objects within a European context and place them in a setting that encourages people to view them from multiple perspectives. "We are looking forward to a large number of entries from many of these young associates as their new way of seeing things and approach to design has the potential to open new doors“, says Prof. Uwe R. Brückner, creative director of ATELIER BRÜCKNER. The Stuttgart office for exhibition design and scenography is a member of the EMEE project and has been given the job of planning and organising the contest.
A symposium at the Stuttgart State Academy of Art and Design (Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste Stuttgart) on 31st October will mark the start of the proceedings for the awards, in which four money prizes will be given. Here, the EMEE research project as well as the contest will be presented. Applications to take part in the competition are being accepted as of 1st September, the last possible date for applications being 28th November 2014; the designs themselves can be submitted up to 30th January, 2015. The prize-giving ceremony will take place in Graz on 7th May, 2015, in the programme of Designmonat Graz. This festival will be followed by a travelling exhibition, which will tour through Europe until June 2016.
EMEE is a four-year European project for the development of national and regional museums and is being sponsored by the European Union to the tune of around 2 million euros. It is being coordinated by Prof. Dr. Susanne Popp, professor of history didactics at the Universität Augsburg. Project partners are the University Paris-Est Créteil, France, the University Roma Tre, Italy, the National Museum of History, Sofia, Bulgaria, the National Museum of Archaeology, Portugal, the National Museum of Contemporary History, Slovenia, the monochrom Kunstverein, Vienna, Austria, and – as the only design office – ATELIER BRÜCKNER in Stuttgart. The project team is jointly working on innovative concepts in order to explore the significance of museum items in a European dimension and to make the museums more attractive to visitors. The aim is to give museum visitors the opportunity to actively participate.
