The Swiss National Museum in Zurich has been nominated for the prestigious European Museum of the Year Award 2020.
The European Museum of the Year Award (EMYA) is awarded annually by the European Museum Forum, the EMF. The prize recognises museums that have been newly opened or redesigned within the last three years and which set new standards for quality. What is important is not the size of the museum but the way the exhibitions are presented and the benefits and quality that the museum offers the general public. The EMYA is regarded as the most significant prize in the museums sector.
With the official opening of its extension in August 2016, the refreshing of its permanent exhibitions and the opening of its refurbished west wing in October 2019, the National Museum Zurich has been given a new look in several different ways. The museum is impressive for its combination of the old and the new, the contemporary and well-balanced presentation of its displays and the way it has created a popular meeting place in the heart of Zurich.
Along with the other nominated museums, the National Museum Zurich will give a presentation at the annual EMF conference in May 2020. The awarding of the Museum of the Year prize is always the highlight of the event.
