In the outskirts of the old town of Herrenberg lies the "Fruchtkasten", an impressive medieval warehouse building with monumental wood constructions, which is characteristic to the city in terms of both size and importance. Now the building is being refurbished while preserving its basic structure, this concerns both the historical construction as well as the open spatial structure of the former warehouse. Instead of dividing the space into separate rooms, a cube is set across all floors to accommodate the service functions of the new exhibition house. The cube is accompanied by a “Stairway into the sky" as the main access point.
