Museum Selma Cologne
Client: DOMiD Dokumentationszentrum und Museum über die Migration in Deutschland
Size (sqm): 10.000
Museum Selma is set to become Germany’s central museum for migration. Following a decision in March 2026, the museum can no longer be built at the originally planned site in Cologne-Kalk. According to current assessments and planning, the project cannot be realized within the available budget.
Regarding the design from the original competition: Designed by ATELIER BRÜCKNER, the project transforms the historic Hall 70 of the former "KHD" factory with minimal, targeted interventions. The design works with the existing structure as a metaphor for society itself: preserving what's there, inviting what's new. Architecture and exhibition design come from one creative vision. More than a museum - it will be a vibrant meeting place, a spark for community and a catalyst for urban renewal. Here, Germany's migration story is told anew - open, participatory and full of life.
