The baroque garden palace, built by Johann Lucas von Hildebrandt between 1706 and 17015, is in need of extensive refurbishment and reorientation. It serves as a museum building for the Verein für Volkskunde. The paradigm shift in its museum's work should become visible. The concept envisages a passageway through the ground floor and thus an opening of the building. The connection between the lively Laudonstrasse and the quiet park on the garden façade will be strengthened. Starting from the clear axis of passage, a coherent sequence of rooms unfolds. The ballroom of the historic building once again becomes the center of attention. An opening in the roof truss creates a new spatial experience generated from the existing building.
