Expo Legacy Children's Library Nukus
Client: Uzbekistan Art and Culture Development Foundation Size (sqm): 1,145
In Nukus, the timber sculpture of the Uzbekistan Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka is finding a lasting new purpose: a shaded gathering place in front of a new children’s library. Designed by ATELIER BRÜCKNER, the ensemble brings the reuse of temporary architecture into dialogue with traditional Central Asian building forms. Inspired by the iwan, the library opens towards the timber sculpture through a colonnade. A glass façade connects interior and exterior, while the rhythmic grid of bookshelves echoes traditional panjara structures. Wood, stone and regional textiles shape the atmosphere. Part of a cultural campus, this place for learning and exchange carries the idea of the “Garden of Knowledge” beyond the Expo.
