The Great National Exhibition 2016 at the State Museum for Natural History in Stuttgart aims towards a young target audience. Following the motto 'doing instead of watching' the junior scientists (5–8 years), the special detectives (9–12 years) and the experts (from 13 years on) explore the different habitats, life forms and scientific methods used by natural scientists. The concept envisages four different, atmospherically designed experiential spaces: water, cave, forest and natural catastrophes. The young museum visitors act as an underwater team, a disaster-relief team or a group of wildlife rangers, thus getting a playful approach to natural history.
